Admissions

The school caters for those children between the ages of 2 and 11 with a severe or profound learning difficulty who will normally reside within the boundaries of the City of Sunderland. Prior to admission all children must have a statement of special educational need or one pending.

Children may be admitted to school on a ‘dual placement.’ This is a placement that is shared with another educational setting for part of the week with the time allocation dependant on the identified needs of the child. The statement of special educational need will set out the schools that will form the dual placement.

Children who live outside the City of Sunderland with a statement of special educational need may also be admitted to the school but only following consultation with the local authority SEN department.

A statement of special educational need is a document compiled as part of the formal statutory assessment procedure (FSA).

This is a multi-professional process that identifies the child’s needs and recommends specific types of intervention and educational provision that will meet the child’s needs.
