Class 6

Spring Term - 2nd Half 2012

Class 6 have been finding out about "Growth" in terms of how our body is changing. We have been looking at photos of ourselves to order and name them as "baby-toddler-child".

As part of Scientific Technological Understanding we have been using different ICT equipment for different purposes.

In Understanding the Arts we have been planning what we want to do and how, using symbols.

and finding out what happens to sounds when played near and far away.

RE - Making pancakes

Every Wednesday afternoon some children from Class 5 and 6 join Broadway Juniors to support each others learning. We played team games - keeping healthy.

Spring Term - 1st half 2012

Class 6 have been exploring the topic of "Me". We visited The Weebles at SouthShields to play games and explore the bodies of Weebles.

When we got back to school we used playdoh to try to make models of the Weebles.

Autumn 2nd Half Term - Food

Class 6 have been finding out about food. What is healthy? Where food comes from? What happens during different cooking processes and using language to describe the food before and after.

Class 6 visited Portland School to find out where eggs came from. We found six eggs in the hen house and enjoyed watching them roam around the grounds. The children gave the hens names: Bobbie and Pip.

 

 

 

When we got back to school we used the eggs a to paint. We experimented mixing different colour paint and rolled the eggs around with the paint to make an egg pattern.

We also chose what we wanted to make an omlette, scambled eggs or boiled eggs. The children used symbols to make a plan and followed the plan when making their egg meal with children from Broadway Junior School.

 

Class 6 visited Portland School Cafe to enjoy a healthy snack.

 

Summer Term

Emotions

Class 6 have been finding about emotions by looking at themselves in the mirror.

We chose places where we would like to go that makes us happy. The children chose to go to The Secret Garden and The Puma Park. You can see from the photos that the children are very happy and enjoyed the visit.

 

PE – The children in Key Stage 2b (Class 5 and 6) have enjoyed working together in different groups for PE. They have been practicing their throwing, kicking, balancing and rolling skills.

 

 

Measures.

We are finding out about measures this half term (Summer 2nd half). We have been printing our feet and hands to use to measure. We have measured ourselves using the height chart, exploring and grouping objects of different sizes and lengths.

 

 

 


 

Spring Term 2011 (1st half)

EARTH

The theme the children have been finding out about is The Earth. The children have enjoyed collecting materials from the ground to make an earthy sensory picture.

The children have also been finding out about the Earth in terms of continents and countries around the world. First they found out about where they lived by visiting landmarks in Sunderland and tasting traditional English food – Fish and Chips! They were delicious!

They made a pasta dish and pizza, using their senses, using different tools and actions.

We then travelled to China to celebrate Chinese New Year. The children listened to the Chinese New Year Story, whilst some children drew the animals. The children enjoyed making a vegetable stir fry whilst practising using chopsticks.

The final destination was India. The children enjoyed making an Indian curry. In the CAS the children made powder paint pictures to represent the colourful Indian tradition.

Sunderland Empire Theatre

Class 6 joined Class 3, 4, and 5 to watch Tim Rice’s Production of Joseph and His Technicolour Dream Coat. This was a new experience for all the children in which they thoroughly enjoyed especially the lights, dancing, music and atmosphere. The children worked together to make their own technicolour Dream Coat practising their mark making, tracing and joining skills.
