Class 5 - Mr. Moffatt
Welcome to Class 5!
Tuesday 21st February
It's Pancake Day!
We loved measuring, mixing and whisking the flour, eggs and milk.
When it came to turning the pancakes, we were flipping marvelous!
Mmmm... All our hard work was worth it!
Wednesday 9th November
Today, Class 5 had a special reward for all of our hard work this term. Our friends from the Prince's Trust used the money they had raised from their pier to pier walk to treat us to a morning at Cookie's Funtime!
We had loads of fun climbing, sliding and tumbling about. We even had time for a quick game of football. A big thank you to the Prince's Trust from all of us.

Happy Halloween!
Class 5 had a great time designing and carving a spooky pumpkin today. We cut out shapes and arranged them on our pumpkin picture to make scary faces. Then we chose our favourite face to use on a real pumpkin.
We worked as a team to hollow out our pumpkin, pulling out all the slimy seeds to make room for our candle.
Our finished pumpkin looked "Spooktacular" and was ready in time for our big Halloween party!

Who built the ark? We did!
Ok, we didn't build it, but we did paint this fantastic picture.

Children from Class 5 and 6 worked together with the children of Broadway Junior School and members of the Cameo Club at Bethany Christian Centre in order to produce this wonderful work of art.
The artists who helped to design this project came to school in order to present the finished work to all involved. Children and club members celebrated afterwards with drinks and biscuits.

Welcome to the Jungle!

It's a new half term, and that means a new theme for class 5. For the next seven weeks we'll be basing our learning around some of our favourite books. We decided to start off with the most popular book in our class - "The Animal Boogie"
We love singing and dancing along to this story in our classroom, but what if we could make our own jungle?
Our friend Marek visited to help us make a jungle den in our reading corner.
We lashed together pieces of bamboo to make a frame, then draped it with fabric, leaves and flowers to make a deep, dark jungle. Marek set up a computer to project jungle images onto the wall of our den and play jungle sounds.
We even set up our own switches in the den so that we could create the noises of our favourite animals.

Happy Valentines Day!

They say that food is the best way to someone's heart. Well, we certainly loved our Valentine's biscuits.
A beautiful stained glass heart Valentines card and a packet of Valentines biscuits to take home to the ones we love.

Class 5 continue their travels around the Earth. This week we arrived in India.
We loved exploring the sweet smelling spices used in Indian cookery. Coriander, cumin, tumeric, cinnamon.
They smell great individually, but they're even better when we mix them together to make "Class 5 Curry Powder".
We tested out our creation by using it to make onion bhajis. The verdict? ...Even better than Penshaw Tandoori!
June came to visit and showed us how to put on a Sari and perform an Indian dance. Bollywood, here we come!
Monday 25th January 2011

It's Burn's Night this week and Class 5 are celebrating all things Scottish.
We designed our very own 'Clan Tartans' by weaving coloured strips of card together. We could make some impressive kilts with these!
And as a special treat for snack time, we baked our very own Scottish Shortbread.
Why not try them for yourself at home? Just follow this simple recipe:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~SCOTTISH SHORTBREAD~~
250g Plain Flour
75g Caster Sugar
175g Butter
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Heat oven to 160oC/325oF
2. Mix flour and sugar in a bowl. Rub in the butter. Knead well to form a smooth paste.
3. Roll out the mix and cut out your favourite shapes.
4. Sprinkle with a little sugar and bake in the oven for 30 minutes until pale and golden.

Enjoy your braw biscuits!

Happy New Year everyone!
Class 5 have had an exciting start to the year. Along with our friends from Broadway Juniors, we travelled to Silksworth SSC to enjoy an afternoon of snow-tubing. Some of us were a little nervous and that long walk to the top of the hill was tough, but it was all worth it. We climbed into our tubes, held on tight to each other, and down we went!
Wow that was fast... and fun! We all raced to join the queue for another turn.
We had a fantastic time, climbing the slope and sliding back down over and over again. Good healthy exercise and really good fun.
We'll definitely come back here again!
